What are data sources on Clarisights?

On the platform you have various places that you can import data from into Clarisights. Broadly we classify these into either Advertising (Eg: Google Ads, Facebook Ads) and Analytics (Eg: Adjust, Google Analytics)

For some of the major sources we do have direct API connections and we keep adding more every month. With direct API connections you have access to a lot of metrics and dimensions from the sources and across levels. For partners where we do not have an API integration you have a host of other options to import data into Clarisights like scheduled email import, Google sheet, SFTP, Bigquery, S3 etc.

Integrating sources types

  • API Connections

While connecting accounts for the native integrations we already have on the platform it's always a great idea to "whitelist" dimensions and metrics that are relevant so as to not have tons of unnecessary fields in the platform. This keeps the workspace clean and clutter free. Any metric or dimension required in the future can be enabled from the manage metrics & dimensions section of the integration.

When you connect your advertising and analytics accounts Clarisights automatically imports and joins the datasets at the most granular level for all supported channels. Additionally you have the option to tweak configurations in supported sources such as Adjust.

You also have the ability to join data from custom sources via custom analytics (eg: Acquisitions for Facebook ad campaigns sitting in your datawarehouse)

  • Custom Advertising Channels

In case of custom advertising channels you have the option to import "advertising data" from various sources like Email, SFTP, S3 bucket, BigQuery Table, Gsheets. While you are limited to 4 dimension, dimension ID fields (eg: Account, Campaign, Ad Group, Ad and their corresponding IDs), thoughtful naming conventions will help you enrich this data later in Clarisights with custom dimensions.

One of the benefits of a custom advertising channel is that you can join other data sources such as Adjust or Custom Analytics based on a joining key such as Campaign or Campaign ID.

  • Other data channels

There are other custom data sources that may not fit into the advertising model and may be present in a more local resource like a Google Sheet or BigQuery Table. Eg: Budgets and Targets, Orders, Data Marts, etc

Such data sources can be integrated via POD channels on Clarisights. While integrating data sources careful thought on how this fits into your already existing data on Clarisights will help you create successful POD channels. Think of these questions

    • Are there fields in my custom data that will blend with system or custom dimensions on Clarisights?

Eg: If you have a country_name column in your source data and a Country custom dimension in Clarisights, you can either

      • import country_name as "Country" if the values are the same on both Custom dimension as well as your data source

      • Or, import country_name as "country_name" and map the values in your data source to the values in the Country custom dimension via rules.

    • Considering filtering your data while importing into Clarisights if you are sure the entire dataset may not be relevant. This will keep your data channel lean and reports using the channel to stay responsive.

  • POD-Analytics sources such as POD - Google Analytics or POD - Adjust are custom instances of the fields from Adjust or Google Analytics that contain both dimensions and metrics and are not joined to any other data source. You may create these channels for specific use cases or reports. Some things to keep in mind while creating POD API channels

    • Have a plan in mind as to what the data source would be used for to decide which dimensions and metrics to import

    • Avoid high cardinality dimensions as much as possible eg: Ad level data, landing page paths, hourly data, etc

    • Consider filtering to only include the relevant data when creating POD-Analytics sources.

    • Keep necessary high cardinality channels separate so you don't slow down reports that don't need granular data.

Once you're done integrating your data channels, onto custom dimensions to harmonize and classify your data on Clarisights.
