Connecting AppNexus (Xandr) on Clarisights

Xandr (formerly AppNexus, now part of Microsoft) is a programmatic advertising platform used to plan, buy, and measure display and video campaigns. Connecting Xandr to Clarisights lets you analyze impressions, clicks, media cost, and conversions for each line item alongside your other paid channels.

⚠ Platform status — Microsoft has announced that the Xandr/Microsoft Invest DSP will be sunset in early 2026 and the Microsoft Advertising SOAP API is being retired (REST-only from Oct 2026; full SOAP deprecation Jan 2027). New Xandr connections may not be advisable for long-term reporting. Existing Clarisights connections continue to run; reach out to support before onboarding new advertisers.

Prerequisites

  • An active Xandr (formerly AppNexus) login at invest.xandr.com with API access enabled

  • Read permission on the advertiser, campaign, and line-item entities you want to report on

  • Knowledge of the timezone and reporting currency configured for each advertiser — you'll set these per account in Clarisights

Steps to Connect

Step 1 — Confirm Xandr API access

Log in to Xandr and confirm your user can call the Xandr API. If you're unsure, ask your Xandr account manager to enable API access for your user.

⚠ "Please check your credentials" on Validate → The most common cause is that the Xandr login does not have API access enabled. Have a Xandr admin grant API permissions, then retry. After role changes, allow up to 1 hour for permissions to sync.

Step 2 — Add Xandr in Clarisights

In Clarisights, go to Integrations → Xandr → Add Account.

Step 3 — Enter your Xandr credentials

Enter your Xandr Username (email) and Password, then choose the Currency and Timezone that match your advertiser configuration in Xandr. Click Validate.

Clarisights authenticates with Xandr and retrieves every advertiser visible to your login.

⚠ Currency / timezone mismatch → Cost and timestamp values will look correct in raw rows but won't reconcile with Xandr UI totals if these settings don't match the advertiser's Xandr configuration. Confirm both with your Xandr admin before saving.

Step 4 — Select advertisers to connect

Pick the advertisers you want to connect, optionally rename them, and click Create Accounts. Each advertiser appears as a separate Account in Clarisights.

Verify the connection

  • Go to Integrations → Xandr. Each connected advertiser should show a "Connected" status with the advertiser ID visible.

  • First data appears within 24 hours, after the next scheduled sync.

  • Quick start: create a new report, add Xandr as the data source, and add Account · Campaign · Line Item · Impressions · Clicks · Cost.

Limitations & known constraints

  • Platform sunset risk: Microsoft has announced the Xandr DSP will be sunset and the underlying Microsoft Advertising SOAP API will be fully deprecated by Jan 2027. Plan migration paths for long-running reports.

  • advertiser_analytics only: Clarisights pulls Xandr's advertiser_analytics report. Buy-side and seller-side analytics reports are not currently ingested.

  • No segment breakdowns: Geography, device, browser, and inventory breakdowns are not currently exposed.

  • Currency / timezone fixed at advertiser setup: changing them in Xandr after connection requires the Clarisights admin to re-enter credentials and reconfigure the account.

  • Daily granularity: hourly breakdowns are not exposed.

Operating notes

  • Refresh schedule: daily.

  • Lookback: backfilled on connect from a date provided by Xandr support; ongoing pulls cover the previous day plus a short reconciliation window.

  • Multi-account: every advertiser visible to a single Xandr login can be connected from a single credential. Add additional Xandr users to onboard advertisers your primary login can't see.

  • Currency conversion: native account currency is preserved on ingest and converted to your reporting currency by Clarisights.

  • Credential rotation: when your Xandr password changes, update it from Integrations → Xandr → Edit Credentials. Tokens issued by the Xandr API are short-lived and refreshed automatically.
