How to use stacked chart?
A stacked chart, also known as a stacked bar graph, is a graph that is used to break down and compare parts of a whole. Each bar in the chart represents a whole, and segments in the bar i.e. the stacks represent different parts or categories of that whole. Different colours are used to illustrate the different categories in the bar. Sample stacked chart below:
How to create a stacked chart?
Choose the widget type as stacked chart in the widget creation panel.
The stacked chart has three elements:
The dimension corresponding to each bar of the chart
The breakdown dimension corresponding to the stacks in each bar
The metric that is plotted on the y-axis
The above elements of the chart can be chosen from the widget properties as shown in the image below.
There is additional option to choose a secondary metric that is plotted as a line which always displays the totals.
See the ones that matter the most
One major flaw of Stacked Chart is that they become harder to read the more segments each bar has. Take a look at the chart below.
Hence, in the stacked charts of Clarisights, the stacks with less data are grouped into Others. Based on the metric you've chosen on the chart, only the top stacks across all the bars corresponding to that metric will be displayed and the rest are grouped.
You can choose the total number of stacks to be displayed from the style options. There are three options to choose from - 5, 10 and 15 with 10 being the default and 15 being the maximum number of stacks a stacked chart can display. For example, if you choose 10 stacks, you would see the top 9 stacks and everything else is grouped into Others .
Note: The bucketing of insignificant stacks into Others is a product update done on September 12th 2019. This update will apply to the stack charts created prior to this date as well and they will show the top 5 stacks (default) on the chart instead of all the stacks.
